Introduction to Fibromyalgia

Musculoskeletal pain, sleep issues, and tiredness are only the tip of the iceberg when dealing with the issues associated with fibromyalgia also referred to as fibromyalgia syndrome. Fibromyalgia is a chronic disease that wreaks havoc on the body causing issues such as irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety, depression, and headaches.  The symptoms and cause of fibromyalgia could possibly be pinpointed to physical and possibly psychological stresses. Furthermore fibromyalgia can to start slowly with symptoms increasing over time.

Pain resulting from fibromyalgia is mostly diagnosed in women but not unheard of in men. Fibromyalgia pain is thought to be the result of nerve stimulation, or neurotransmitters, signaling the brain to tell the body it is in pain. Although fibromyalgia can be managed with medication and exercise, lifestyle changes in general may be required to gain relief from this condition. The very nature of this chronic disease can make everyday life difficult. Speaking from experience, fibromyalgia patients suffer from not only the pain and symptoms associated with the disease but also from being misunderstood by family and loved ones causing disruption of the family unit, and deterioration in relationships. More than anything, it is my opinion, that all sufferers of fibromyalgia have a solid support system in place to assist in trying times.
